| One of the precious babies at church! |
5/13-5/14
Yesterday morning we went to church..
African church. It was an experience! It was the first time we had really been around
small children so we were all so excited and couldnʼt stop smiling. We held
them in our laps, and held their hands through church. It was so funny to see
their reactions to are presence there. Seeing white people is a rarity, and
some babies have never seen a white person so occasionally we would try to pick
one up and they would scream. Most of the kids, however, loved it, and when we
waved at them they would smile and wave back excitedly, and stare. It was so
wonderful to be loved on by these sweet and beautiful children! Seeing their
dark skin, dark, almost glowing eyes, their bald heads, and pretty skin, it is
hard for me not to stare and tell each one of them how beautiful they truly
are! Also, seeing them sing, dance, and truly praise the Lord at such an early
age is amazing.
Jake had the opportunity to preach at church!
He had a translator, which helped a lot, because many people here speak
Lugandan. The national language is English and most people speak both, but
there are some exceptions. I have been getting better at understanding the
Ugandan accents. I didnʼt think about there even being a language barrier, but
it has been a challenge! Equally a challenge for them as well, as we pronounce
things differently and they donʼt use contractions. Challenge #1: Yaʼll.
(5/14)
Today we went to a fellowship
meeting at Cornerstone. I love listening to theUgandans talk about God! Every time I am
reminded that the God of America is the God of Africa and is working in the
same way! One of the ladies that shared talked about God using the foolish to
shame the wise and the weak to shame the strong. (1 Corinthians 1:27) She
talked about God even being able to use us in our weaknesses because of this.
Which yesterday we had just talked about our lack of understanding about a
situation not inhibiting how God works, because he can use us even in our
confusion. Then today, I read Jesus Calling, in which an excerpt read: “I have
chosen to use weak ones like you to accomplish My purposes. Your weakness is
designed for you to open up to My power... Stay connected to Me and My
limitless resources.. I equip you fully.”

| Like I said, Africans are BEAUTIFUL! |
Tonight at Bukesa, the boys “taught” us how to
dance. They are all so good! Mostly it consisted of them doing flips and
standing on their heads, and laughing at our attempts. What I loved most about
today is watching the relationships that have formed so quickly between our
team and the boys. So often I would see them hugging, holding hands with, or
just loving on our team. They make us signs that say “I love you” and tell us
we are their best friends. Also, when we arrive they always say, “I am so glad
that you are back here today with us!” Someone pointed out last night that we
are so privileged to serve a God who IS love. Being around the boys and loving
them, as well as receiving their love, is experiencing God! I love that!
Also, I have been praying for God to teach me
things these few weeks, and since I love thinking of the names of God, today I
have been thinking about Rabbi, Jesus. I had written a quick prayer telling
God I simply want to sit at His feet and learn from Him. Then, Keela shared a verse
her friend had written for her to read today in a note.
Jeremiah 33:3- “Call to Me and I will answer
you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” I love
this! Call to Him and He WILL answer me.. then He will reveal great and hidden
things! I think back to a verse someone recently shared with me, “You have
said, “Seek My face.” My heart responds, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.” I want
to seek Him. If I do, I know He will answer. He will teach. And if I am
listening, I will learn.
I am so blessed everyday that I am here! To
read more (or more concise I suppose.. ha!) see our blog at
luugandamission.blogspot.com which will be updated regularly.
Also, more posts
on here soon, hopefully!
