Markers On Paper

5/19-5/20
Saturday night we went to Bukesa boys home again, and it was so good to see them after being gone for a few days! I spent most of the time making “pretty-pretties” for the boys because they were so amazed by bubble letters. Boy after boy, name after name, they just kept coming! I loved it though. Something so common and so silly in America that is mostly for young girls, made these boys day; being able to see their name drawn in bubble letters and hung on the wall. I was reminded how we all have something to give, even if it is as simple as markers on paper.
Sunday we went to church with our driver, Douglas. It was an interesting experience. Very different from the other “fellowship” experiences we have had here. I did get the opportunity, though, to help with children’s class where a few other team members and myself taught the kids American VBS songs! After church we went to Douglas’ house to eat lunch. Jake had offered to pay him so his family could cook a meal for us, but Douglas responded, “No. You will take away my blessing like that.” His family had prepared a HUGE meal for us, that we could not finish, but was delicious. We all left extremely full.
That night we went to Mengo girls home again. I once again found Stella, and thoroughly enjoyed talking with her. When we were leaving one of the younger girls, Joy came up and grabbed my hand. She looked up into my eyes and said, “Christine? Right?” (They pronounce Christine as Kristen so they think my name is Christine.) I said “Yes!” She then handed me a note she had written, which made my day! It is in the picture below:

The wall of pretty pretties!

Crazy Ibra! Love this sweet boy!
