5/10-5/11
Tonight, as we drove from the Enteppe
airport to Kampala in a Ugandan van, widows open, I sat silently, trying to process
where we were. Since it was dark I couldnʼt fully tell what it would be like,
and in the anticipation of how our next two weeks would be filled I found
myself realizing that I was in the midst of the complete opposite of normal.
While this can be exciting, it is also nerve racking. Then I found myself
wondering, why do I (we) long for comfort? How many opportunities in my life
have I passed up because of lack of comfort; unwillingness to take a break from
normal? God does not call us to be comfortable, or to remain in “normal.” Iʼve
heard that 1,000 times but have chosen “normal” time and time again. It may be
a challenge, but I am confident that is where growth happens. THIS is where
growth will happen. So hereʼs to the uncomfortable, the lack of normal, strange
and mysterious adventure that awaits in these next two weeks.

Today was our first day in Uganda! Adjusting to
the time difference has been a struggle but besides that everything has gone
smoothly. We went to the mall today to eat lunch and grab groceries. Tonight
some of the boys and girls came from the Cornerstone homes. We basically had
church for FOUR hours. Lemme tell you, these people know how to sing, dance,
pray, and preach. I wish I had a video of them dancing! They were praising with
such pure joy. The sincerity of their worship was overwhelming. There is no
doubt God was dwelling in the building tonight. I kept thinking of the verse
“He inhabits our praise.”
The people are so beautiful and friendly here!
The city is so interesting and I want to buy everything African! Today wasnʼt
our typical day, so I still donʼt know what to expect. Please pray for
continued safety as well as our eyes to be open to what He wants us to to while
we are down there, even if it means our current plans falling through.
